Celebrex is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) pain reliever that helps relieve symptoms of acute, moderate and minor arthritis. It relieves pain with reduced inflammation and pain signals. In people with mild to moderate arthritis, the pain relief may be milder. Celebrex is sometimes used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.
Celebrex is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) analgesic. It works by blocking enzymes (platelet aggregation) that cause pain. This makes it easier for pain to come back or be bothersome. Celebrex is most commonly prescribed to people with mild pain in the knee, hip, or gluteus (thrush or other fungal infections). It is most commonly used when pain is severe and does not respond to other pain relievers.
Celebrex is available as the brand name Celebrex, which was manufactured by Novartis. It was first marketed in 2002 and is available in a number of different forms, including capsules, oral tablets, and topical creams. Celebrex has a long record of safety and effectiveness. Like many other medications, Celebrex is subject to side effects, so it is important to discuss any concerns with your healthcare provider first.
This medication should not be used in the treatment of a medical emergency. If you experience any side effects, contact your healthcare provider immediately.
There may be side effects from taking Celebrex. Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are at risk of side effects while taking this medication. Celebrex can cause a serious reaction when taken with alcohol. If you have a stomach ulcer, kidney disease, high blood pressure, enlarged prostate, high cholesterol or diabetes, or a history of these conditions, discuss with your healthcare provider before starting treatment with Celebrex. In the rare event of a heart attack or stroke, stop taking Celebrex and call your healthcare provider right away if you have any symptoms of a heart attack or stroke.
Many people taking Celebrex have experienced mild side effects. However, this is not a complete list of side effects. Celecoxib works by blocking the effects of COX-1 enzymes, which are responsible for causing inflammation and pain. This medication inhibits the COX-1 enzyme, reducing the levels of many of the inflammatory mediators that are involved in pain and inflammation. This results in fewer of the pain-causing molecules that are associated with inflammation, such as prostaglandins, which are chemicals that cause pain. In addition, this medication has been shown to be effective in treating conditions that are commonly caused by pain, including arthritis, and has shown potential as a pain relief medication.
While celecoxib is generally considered safe, it can cause side effects in some individuals. Some common side effects of celecoxib include:
